Due to human-induced greenhouse gas emissions, solar radiation is being increasingly trapped close to the Earth’s surface, leading to rising atmospheric temperatures. This rise in temperature is linked to drastic changes in weather patterns and ecosystems, creating more frequent and intense storms, droughts and heatwaves.
This also affects our oceans, which have also increasingly warmed over the past century. In fact, the rate of warming has doubled since 1993, as they absorb more than 90 per cent of the excess heat in the climate system.
