Migration and displacement of people can be triggered by both sudden and slow-onset events which destroy homes and livelihoods. Communities living in risk hotspots, with few resources to adapt, recover or respond to the devastating consequences of a disaster or risk tipping point impact often have no choice but to move to other areas.
The context of these movements and the capacities of the affected people determine whether these movements are adaptive, or can trigger further losses and damages.
